Marin Theatre Celebrates Diamond Milestone with Glittering 60th Anniversary Gala

This Spring, Marin Theatre will pay tribute to its six decades of theatrical artistry. And innovation with its 60th Anniversary Gala. In recognition of the Mill Valley company’s diamond milestone, this shimmering soiree will also honor three major contributors to the arts: director/playwright/producer Carey Perloff as a luminary of the Bay Area theatre world, longtime Marin Theatre supporter and prior board member Vickie Soulier for her tireless support, and visionary volunteer and prior board president Ivan Poutiatine for his years of service to the theatre company. Guests will savor fine dining and exquisite cocktails, dazzling entertainment, and have the opportunity to bid on rare treasures in thrilling live and silent auctions at this fabulous fete.

Marin Theatre’s 60th Anniversary Gala will take place 5. P.m. Sunday, April 19, 2026 at the Mill Valley Community Center (180 Camino Alto) in Mill Valley, CA. Proceeds from this celebratory evening will benefit the future of Marin Theatre.

Festivities will kick off with a cocktail reception featuring a champagne spritz specialty cocktail, followed by a delicious, seated dinner prepared to perfection by Stacy Scott Catering. Guests will participate in a live and silent auction, vying for exclusive items and adventures, including a weekend getaway to Oregon Shakespeare Festival with theatre tickets and accommodations, as well as other special experiences. The evening will also feature a lineup of live entertainment, offering a rousing look back at Marin Theatre’s history and perhaps a preview of what’s to come for the Mill Valley company.

Marin Theatre was founded in 1966 when 35 Mill Valley residents came together under the leadership of Sali Lieberman to create the Mill Valley Center for the Performing Arts. The nonprofit organization brought arts as diverse as film, theatre, poetry, dance, and concerts of classical, jazz, and folk music to Marin County for a decade. After a number of successful productions of all kinds, MVCPA began to exclusively produce and present theatre performances in 1977. Over the years, the group staged critically acclaimed, award-winning plays throughout the community.

MVCPA changed its name to Marin Theatre Company (MTC) in 1984, beginning a period of extraordinary growth. By 1987, MTC had become a professional theatre company, opening its own theatre complex.

Rechristened Marin Theatre in 2024, the company is the leading professional theatre in the North Bay and the premier mid-sized theatre in the Bay Area.
